Conference | Treasures of Gemer

On Thursday, 28 June, the third professional conference of the non-profit organization Obnovme Gemer took place under the title "Treasures of Gemer: reviving intangible cultural heritage and crafts". The event was held within the framework of the project LDI02024 Centres of Renewal in Gemer.

The event was organized by two institutions: the non-profit organization Obnovme Gemer and the Norwegian Crafts Institute (Norsk Handverksinsittut). The organisations decided to cooperate on the theme of preservation and revival of lost or forgotten crafts in Gemer.

Three expert presentations were organised during the event. The first, given by Director Eivind Falk, focused on a general introduction to the Norwegian Craft Institute and how their work has influenced Norway's cultural heritage.

In the second presentation, the expert and senior advisor of the Kjetil Storeheier Norheim Institute spoke about specific methods, giving two examples from practice where, thanks to their efforts, it has been possible to reconstruct craft techniques that no longer exist. His presentation, which also includes a short video of the practice, can be downloaded below.

The final, third presentation by recognized expert Jarle Hugstmyr also had a comparative role. Through the eyes of the well-known professor, we were able to see into the past and what the main differences are between the original crafts and the crafts that the Institute has managed to revive. You can download the presentation here.
